Edward E. David, Jr. served as Science Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology from 1970 to 1973. From 1977 to 1986, he was President of Exxon Research and Engineering Company. Dr. David spent the first two decades of his research career at Bell Telephone Laboratories, latterly as Executive Director. He has also served as the U.S. Representative to the NATO Science Committee.

Dr. David is a member of the American Philosophical Society, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Public Administration, the National Academy of Sciences, and is a trustee of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is is also a Life Fellow of the IEEE.

Dr. David received his doctorate in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
