Saturday, August 23, 2025 | 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Warning: Extreme Science Ahead
For one day only, science gets dangerously fun. Experience Caution! Don’t Try This at Home Day, a sizzling spectacle packed with wild, over-the-top experiments you should absolutely not attempt in your kitchen.
We’re lighting things on fire, launching objects into the sky, and creating explosions that push the limits of chemistry and physics, all under the expert supervision of our fearless science performers and daring partners.
What’s too risky for home is just right for us.
Expect high-impact explosions and demonstrations every hour, showcasing the power of gravity, pressure, combustion, and chemical reactions. These aren’t just your classroom experiments, they’re the kind that make your jaw drop and your heart race.
Must-see danger zones include:
- A 500-ball blast triggered by ultra-cold Liquid Nitrogen
- A 42-foot Messy drop of Jell-O, slime, possibly a watermelon, and more!
- A Multi-balloon Fiery Explosion brought to you by Hydrogen, and a little spark
- Dynamic stunts with the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts Youth Troupe
- Explore a real fire truck from the Philadelphia Fire Department Prevention and Code Division from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Meet Crazy Aaron of Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty. Explore the science behind polymers and the putty-making process from the inventor himself! Experience hands-on activities with a variety of putties and get a sneak peek at some special putties featured in the big drop!
- And more to come!
Members Only: See our Youth Ambassadors in action! Join our next generation of science leaders for hands-on fun in Pepper Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
