For the application of x-ray diffraction to study muscle contraction.

Dr. Hugh Huxley solved the molecular mechanism of muscle contraction. As a graduate student, he was an original member of the Molecular Biology Research Unit in which Francis Crick and James Watson engaged in their groundbreaking research on DNA.

Dr. Huxley obtained his Ph.D. at Christ's College, Cambridge University and researched as part of the M.R.C. Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
