The Franklin Institute Takes Families to Infinity and Beyond
From a monster-filled metropolis to the emotions inside an 11-year-old girl’s mind, Pixar has shaped the movie culture of a generation by exploring fantastical worlds and imaginative characters. The Franklin Institute’s March 11 Family Party brought the science behind Pixar off the screen and into our halls, as kids and grownups alike heard from Pixar’s production team, made their own stop-motion films, and designed their own 3D structures. Donning Pixar swag and attire, guests delighted in photo-ops with Buzz, Woody, Sulley, and Mike Wazowski, while listening to the family-friendly jams of D.J. Wiggles.
More than 900 guests joined the Institute in launching its newest exhibition, which runs through September 5. The Science Behind Pixar locally presented by TE Connectivity, presents a backstage look at the creation and design of Pixar movies, with the goal of increasing the understanding and appreciation of the core STEM content that is the foundation of digital animation. Larry Dubinski, President and CEO of the Institute, commented, “We are thrilled to have shared such a fun and enriching evening with so many families. By introducing kids to digital technology through a medium as accessible as Pixar, we are building the future of the field.”
A huge thanks to the evening’s lead underwriter, Sandra K. Baldino. Also to the Institute’s Family Party Committee, including Committee Co-Chairs Sandra K. Baldino, Steve and Michelle Kelly, Linda and Chris McIsaac, Leanne and Robert McMenamin, and Karen and Gary Zimmer.
The Institute thanks all who attended to help us to celebrate the opening of The Science Behind Pixar. Their support of the Institute’s mission broadens the public awareness of the just how far reaching the fields of STEM can be, whether in finding a lost clown fish, helping a rat learn to cook, or flying a house to South America with balloons.
