Workshop for K-8 Teachers

Understanding the Brain: Becoming a Learning Scientist PART 1
The workshops will take place Monday, March 23rd.
4:30 pm – 7:30 pm  (Act 48 credit available)

Become a learning scientist at The Franklin Institute!  Explore the new Your Brain exhibit, and learn key ideas from neuroscience research that apply directly to teaching and learning.

A $20 registration fee is required. Refundable upon course completion.

    The Franklin Institute offers professional development to help educators both in school and non-school settings engage youth in active STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) learning in ways that address the needs and build the capacity of schools, district offices, community-based organizations, individual educators, and science learners.

    Learning opportunities are available in multiple locations and formats—from single sessions to multi-week institutes at the museum or at your school/district/organization. Whichever options accommodate your needs best, know that you will enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in a safe, respectful environment and will leave with a load of new ideas, invigorated and ready to inspire others to love science.

    We are committed to supporting the development of science process skills, content knowledge, and pedagogy.  Sessions incorporate:

    Inquiry-based science learning
    Specific content knowledge
    Effective evidence-based practices and strategies
    Curricular connections that include links to literacy and mathematics
    Links to state and national standards as desired
    ACT 48 credit when appropriate.

    The Franklin Institute is a long-time leader in the field of professional development and has successfully worked with thousands of pre-school to 12th grade teachers from both urban and suburban districts in the tri-state region and beyond, pre-service teachers, and out-of-school time facilitators such as librarians, afterschool staff, community-group leaders, and parents nationwide.

    Our inquiry-based, hands-on professional development offers unique insight into the power of science and provides original ways to communicate its wonder and make it exciting for youth in and out of the classroom! We draw upon a wide range of professional development opportunities addressing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines as well as evidence-based practices in teaching, learning, and assessment.
