The Franklin Institute's Homeschool Workshops are for students ages 7-14. All ages will be in the same classroom, but separated by age at different tables. Each workshop runs from 10:30AM-2:30PM followed by free time to explore the museum as a family.
October 8 - Fall Into Science
Start the school year off right with a subject matter to FALL in love with. Explore everything orange today with the science of pumpkins, orange-colored chemistry, and the botany of carrots.
November 12 - SportsZone
Dive in to our brand-new exhibit, SportsZone, while you learn how to prepare your body, your equipment, and your brain to tackle your favorite sports.
December 10 - Eye To The Sky
Explore the depths of the universe using the same tools as astronomers! Discover what stars thousands of miles are made of with the use of a spectroscope, get a closer look at our neighboring planets, and learn how some of the world’s most powerful telescopes are helping us unravel the mysteries of the universe.
February 11 - Systems Check Up
Get to know yourself a little better by exploring the systems of the body and learn how they all work together to keep you running like a well-oiled machine.
March 10 - It’s Electric!
Harness the power of electricity through hands-on activities and demonstrations based on some of Ben Franklin’s experiments and “maker” projects.
April 14 - Lost Egypt
Become an archaeologist for a day as you explore the methods used to unearth, piece together, and decipher ancient artifacts. Learn how technology is revolutionizing archaeological research unraveling the mummification process, to reconstructing a face from the past.
May 12 - Pixar
Animation is the process by which images are brought to life. Discover how a complex team of designers, artists, producers, computer programmers and many more talented people work together to create some of your favorite movies.

Book additional workshops this school year and receive $5 off for each workshop per student.

What to Bring
- Please pack a lunch. The class will take about a 30 minute break in the classroom for lunch.
- Portfolios and pencils will be provided, so you don't have to bring anything else, unless you want to.
- The temperature can vary greatly around the museum, so dress in layers and be prepared for small messes!
- A Health and Consent Form if you haven't already returned it. (Only one per school year needed.)
Arrival and Departure
Sign in will begin in the Bartol Atrium on the 2nd floor around 10:15AM and we will leave for the classroom by 10:30AM. We will return your student(s) to the Atrium around 2:30PM for you to sign them back out and begin exploring the museum on your own.
You may park in The Franklin Institute's garage, entrance on 21st St, at a discounted rate of $6 per Workshop. Please bring your ticket inside to receive the Workshop pass.
