PEEP 2.0 Programming invites educators to participate in energy education workshops and receive hands-on kits for their classrooms.
For more than eleven years, PECO, The Franklin Institute and the NEED project have partnered together to provide local schools with the PECO Energizing Education Program. PEEP 2.0 is designed to help educators from across the Philadelphia region bring energy education into their schools and to provide all the tools and resources necessary for students and teachers to learn together, explore energy together, and teach their local communities about energy. The attention to student leadership sets PEEP 2.0 apart from other programs and brings exactly the right level of momentum to this effort. Through a variety of activities, the program enriches the learning both in students’ homes and throughout the community.
Educators participate in energy education workshops and receive hands-on kits for their classrooms. PEEP 2.0 also encourages attendees to sign up for Energy Fair and Educational Energy Audit for their schools. In addition, schools are invited to participate in the PECO Innovation Challenge, which engages students in the exploration of energy and seeking solutions to energy challenges of today and tomorrow. At the end of the program, the PECO Innovation Challenge participants concludes with the display of the participants’ solutions at the PECO Innovation Challenge Showcase and STEM Career Symposium.
At all grade levels, the PEEP program explored:
- The science of energy;
- Sources of energy;
- Electricity generation and transmission;
- Efficiency and conservation at home and school;
- Connections to the careers that power the industry.
We are offering four one-day workshop for participating teachers. Teachers in the greater Philadelphia area (Philadelphia, Bucks, West Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and parts of Bucks county) can participate.
These free one-day energy workshops will provide participating schools with a robust energy education background. Teachers will participate and explore the curriculum and resources as their students will – finding ways to adapt the lessons to their classrooms while meeting state standards.
Participating teachers receive (at no cost):
- Substitute reimbursement
- PA Professional development hours
- Breakfast, lunch, and parking
- PA standards based curriculum
- Your choice of a hands-on NEED kit
- The opportunity to apply to participate in the PECO Innovation Challenge
