With the help of essential philanthropic contributions from donors, including private foundations, last year 1.2 million people directly experienced Institute programs, both within and beyond the museum’s walls. Students across the region visited on field trips, many at discounted rates or for no charge; teachers received free access to pre- and post-visit curricular resources; museum educators performed free live science shows every day; and science outreach programs reached diverse audiences in their own communities.
To maintain these programs and to reach as many students and their families as possible, each gift is truly a significant contribution. Despite difficult economic times, the Institute strives to maintain a balanced budget, and has successfully done so for each of the last four years. Philanthropic support from donors allows students from underserved schools to experience science and technology education at the Institute for free.
