Join The Franklin Institute in celebration of the 2017 International Science Center and Science Museum Day for a day of free programming focused on the role that science and technology plays in building the future. Free demonstrations, activities, and live shows will promote sustainability, environmental responsibility, and biological innovation—inspiring guests to discover the impact that science and technology has in their lives and communities. Featuring hands-on educational activities and live shows about climate change, activities about synthetic biology, and the all-new 3D Printing the Future gallery, guests will engage with cutting-edge developments aimed to improve the future of our world, and leave with tools and tactics to begin making changes in their own homes and communities.

Event highlights:

Climate & Urban Systems Partnership (CUSP) and Sustainability

Philadelphia’s climate is changing—it’s getting hotter and wetter. Participate in hands-on activities that show how you can help prepare your neighborhood for the changing climate through adaptations like planting trees, installing green rooftops, and using rain barrels. 10:00 am to 4:30 pm

Live Show: Hot Philly, Cool Science

Explore our changing climate! Step into the role of scientist to learn about why our climate is changing and discover ways to help our city stay cool and comfortable during hot Philadelphia summers. Shows at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm

Building with Biology

Get an up-close-and-personal view of how the emerging science of synthetic biology could transform engineering, medicine, and the environment in the future, along with the decisions we make about how it will impact our lives. 10:00 am to 4:30 pm

3D Printing the Future

A limited-engagement special gallery, 3D Printing the Future tells the extraordinary story behind the 3D printing craze, showcasing the power of the human imagination through technological advancement. 9:30 am to 5:00 pm

Tech Studio Drop-in Workshops

Stop by the Tech Studio throughout the day for machine demonstrations, interactive workshops, and drop-in activities. 10:30 am to 3:30 pm

Building Design with K’nex and Keva Planks

Let your imagination run wild as you design and build whatever you like using our museum-sized inventory of construction sets. Do you have avid structure constructors in your group? Get comfortable. This could take a while. 10:30 am to 4:00 pm
