Calling all amateur engineers and budding builders! The Franklin Institute is teaming up with our friends at MakerBot to present the first ever Make-a-Thon. Between the hours of 9:30 am and 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 4. Kids from grades 4 through 12 are invited to test their STEM skills in a hands-on challenge, designing and 3D printing balloon-powered cars. Participants will learn the basics of 3D printing, then apply what they learn in real time. At the end of the event, cars will be raced and judged for creativity, innovation, and speed! All participants will be able to take home their own 3D printed designs, and winners will get exclusive MakerBot prizes. Join us at the Make-a-Thon!
Appropriate for kids in grades 4-12. Participants can come individually or with a team of up to 10 students. Enter through the museum’s main entrance, then take elevator B to the 5th Floor by 9:30 am.
9:30 - 10:00 am - introduction to 3D design and printing
10:00 am -1:00 pm - design, make, print!
1:00 pm - all designs must be submitted for printing
1:00 - 3:30 pm - break, explore the museum while your designs are printing
3:30 - 4:00 pm - races and judging
4:00 pm - awards and prizes!
