2019-2020 Field Trips
The Franklin institute is proud to offer our Student Access Program, allowing eligible Title I schools to visit for free or discounted field trips. In its seventh year, this program has made it possible for more than 30,000 students per school-year to enjoy interactive science at The Franklin Institute through the generosity of our supporters.
To qualify for the Student Access Program, schools must meet three criteria:
- Be located in the states of Delaware, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania
- Be classified as Title 1
- At least fifty percent of the student body qualifies for free/reduced lunch
September 9, 2019 – January 29, 2020
Complimentary museum admission and lunchroom space will be offered to all students and chaperones, with discounted rates available for the special exhibit, Worst-Case Scenario: The Survival Experience!
Free visits are available Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays (excluding holidays), September 9, 2019 through January 29, 2020. Availability is limited and the program fills up quickly. Dates that are full will be removed from the Request Form and will not be available.
If your school meets the criteria and you wish to book a free visit, please complete the Student Access Request Form here. You will receive a confirmation within one business day after submitting the form. Final headcount and payment for any visit upgrades is due at least three weeks prior to the date of your visit.
The availability of free field trips would not be possible without the generosity of our supporters. Thank you cards or notes from students and teachers are always appreciated and allow us to show our supporters the impact of their contribution. Please consider having your class make thank you notes which may be sent to The Franklin Institute (Attn: Melissa Fleming); 222 North 20th Street; Philadelphia, PA 19103) and will be shared with those that make this program possible!
Through April 3, 2020
Our free visit program is very popular and meets capacity quickly. We also realize schools may want to visit later in the school year. If your school meets the criteria and cannot utilize the free visit program, you can receive a $2.00 discount off student tickets for visits Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through April 3, 2020.
If your school wishes to book a discounted visit, please give us a call at 215.448.1200 (Option 3) and we would be happy to assist you. You will receive a confirmation within one business day after submitting the form. Final headcount and payment for any visit upgrades is due at least three weeks prior to the date of your visit.
One chaperone for every ten students is required; however, we recommend one chaperone for every five students to allow for the best experience! Chaperones are considered any adult with the group and include teachers, school staff, administrators, nurses, and parents/guardians.
Groups that plan to bring their lunches to eat on-site must reserve a lunchroom. Lunches must be placed together in a box or bin and labeled with your group name. We’ll store it for you while you explore the museum. There will be no fee charged for using the lunchroom for free visits; a fee of $25 (up to 150 people) or $50 (over 151 people) applies for discounted visits.
