Three Internet Video Conferences are scheduled during the 1997-1998 school year. These are currently scheduled for:
January 29, 1998: The first event will occur while the team visits the USTA Training Facility in Key Biscayne, Florida. The team will be studying the differences in the four major court surfaces: grass, hard court and two types of clay courts. The researchers will be observing how the tennis balls react differently on each surface - for example what is the balls speed and how much does the ball spin after the ball strikes the court. Students will be able to participate in this live Internet conference and submit questions to the researchers LIVE! Team members from NASA, the US Tennis Association as well as our project team will answer your questions on tennis and sports science. June 10, 1998: The second event will be conducted during our wind tunnel tests. Students will be able to watch the team as they collect data on the flow around the tennis ball. We'll also be presenting some of our computer simulations of the how tennis balls "fly". September 9, 1998: The final event is planned during a professional tennis tournament. The team will be collecting further information on the speed and trajectories of tennis balls. There will also be three Web Chat Sessions. Follow this link for more information on how to participate in each event. In particular, information on how to download the software you may need to participate in this event will be provided.
