"Different Colored Feathers"

MATERIALS NEEDED:
  • construction paper or colored paper
  • crayons and marking pens

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Show the students the variety of pictures you have of male and female birds within the same species. Talk together about how they are alike and how they are different.

two Compare pictures of male and female birds within different species. Talk together about how they are alike and how they are different.

three Ask each student to draw a picture on the construction paper or colored paper of their favorite male and female bird. Ask them to color the feathers as they see them in your pictures that you have shared with them.

four Pin up the students' pictures of the birds on one bulletin board and label with the names of the birds.

five As an extension ask the students to look for these birds that they have drawn in the air flying.
