This simple tale from Nigeria actually describes the order of the universe. By giving natural elements human qualities, we can relate better to the story itself.

Nigeria

Long ago, the Sun and the Moon met and got married. They built a beautiful house on dry Land and started their life together. After a few months they decided to invite their friend the Ocean for a visit. "You are very kind to think of me," said the Ocean, "But I am afraid I cannot accept your offer." "I knew it," said the Moon, "You do not like us anymore." The Ocean responded "I do but I don't think I will fit in your house." Ths Sun thought this meant the Ocean didn't think their house was grand enough. "Not at all" replied the Ocean, "I'm sure your house matches your brilliance, but-". "Then come in," said the Moon and she threw open the doors. The house was very large and stretched as far as the eye could see. The Ocean shyly seeped across the threshold. "Come, come, there's plenty of room for you," laughed the Sun. So the Ocean began to flow in more swiftly.

Soon the entire floor was covered with water. "See, there was nothing to worry about," said the Moon. "Actually, I have only just begun to enter," said the Ocean and with that, a large wave rushed across the room and splashed against the walls. The Sun and the Moon lifted higher and higher to avoid getting wet. Soon the fish and the other creatures of the sea began to swim around in the house. "My apologies," said the Ocean but the Sun said "Think nothing of it, there is room for all."

As the Ocean continued to flood into the house, the Sun and Moon were forced higher and higher until eventually, they were outside on the roof. "Tell me, my friend," the Sun called down, "Are you just about in?" "I believe I am nearly halfway there," roared the Ocean. "You are most generous to invite me." The Sun and the Moon did not want to be rude and take back their invitation so they just rose higher and higher into the sky. Their magnificent house was floating upside down in the water below. So it came to be that the Sun and the Moon took up permanent residence in the Sky and found harmony with the Land and the Ocean. And although they take turns looking down with curiosity, they have never again touched the ground.
