Introduction | page 1 |
We have learned that the desire to fly is as common and old as our history as a species. We have watched this desire gradually change from a dream into reality. Before we take a closer look at how an aircraft flies, we need to learn about its surrounding environment. Just as land and sea were closely studied before pushcarts gave way to race cars and sailboats turned into submarines, so has knowledge of the air led from kites to satellites. What is this "air" that we "craft?"
