Meshing Around Data Table

Directions:

• Create as many two gear combination "gear trains" as you can.
• Turn the first gear clockwise one complete turn. This is the drive gear.
• Record how many times the driven gear turns. (Hint, if the drive gear is smaller than the driven gear the drive gear may only turn 1/2 turn.)

What pattern do you see between the "Turn to Turn" ratio and the "Teeth to Teeth" ratio?

 

 

Now experiment and try a three gear train. Record your results. What about a four gear train? A five gear train. Does the direction change with more than two gears. Draw a diagram that includes arrows to show the direction of the gears as they move.
