    The Columbia County Courthouse Clock 

The courthouse was built in 1906, and four years later the clock and the bell were installed. The bell can be heard from three miles away. At that time, there were three towns here instead of one: Houghton, Milton, and St. Helens. There were only 1,500 people living here. There was heavy river traffic and a big ship building business.
