Robotics Events

Design, Build, Operate, and Maintain. These are the four steps to building and maintaining a successful robot, and the first lesson of the PACTS Robotics/Artificial Intelligence Team workshops. One of the goals of PACTS is to offer students the chance to participate in hands-on programs and projects. For the past three years, PACTS has developed a robotics/artificial intelligence program that encourages our students to design and build their own robots. Students meet weekly to put their designs into action, and it is not unusual for team members to drop by after school to finish designs or do extra research for an upcoming project.

A major component of our robotics/artificial intelligence program is our partnership with the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE. The league is an international program for student's ages 9-14 that combines a hands-on interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere using the LEGO Mindstorm Robotics Invention System. Teams face an annual challenge emulating a real world event or situation, such as rescuing a team of scientist in the artic circle. The team must research, plan, build, and operate a fully autonomous robot capable of accomplishing the challenge.

PACTS volunteer Mentors coach the PACTS Robot/Artificial Intelligence team. These talented adults use their science and engineering skills to teach the team the basics of computer programming, robot design, and other skills that enable our Robot/Artificial Intelligence program to be successful.
