Careers in Science Day [February, 2007]

Join us in our exploration, as we discover invisible life forms in a sample of water, or design robots for state and regional competitions. Come and experience leading a science workshop or presenting the data of your own research to the public. Consider joining a team of students interested in science and learning about careers in science and technology and what they have to offer you. These are some of the exciting opportunities that PACTS has to offer, if you accept our invitation to join our program.

PACTS (Partnerships for Achieving Careers in Technology and Science) is a year-round youth leadership experience, designed to involve students as an integral part of The Franklin Institute. It combines science enrichment, career development, mentoring, and leadership opportunities for diverse middle and high school students in the Philadelphia region. As a PACTS student, you can experience hands-on science workshops, environmental research, special field trips, college and career counseling, and much more.

Students who remain in PACTS through high school graduation acquire and retain the expertise and confidence to be successful college students and to become dynamic, productive adults with engaging careers in science and beyond.
Each year, PACTS works with approximately 100 students in the school and summer-term programs. During the eleven years of its existence, PACTS has enrolled more than 1,000 students, has offered over 130 students intern employment in the museum, and has "graduated" 95 students, some of whom have returned as college interns to work in the program. Over the years, PACTS has also touched the lives of several thousand additional students through weekend workshops in neighborhood sites and invitational programs at The Franklin Institute.
"PACTS made me realize that I didn't have to stay in this little box. I can venture on to bigger and better things."
--PACTS graduate, M.D./Ph.D. student at Drexel University College of Medicine
