Explorations

The Franklin Institute Lecture Series

Recognizing the value of lifelong education, and upholding the spirit of Benjamin Franklin, The Franklin Institute is proud to introduce another year of Explorations, a lecture series geared especially toward adults and teens. Join us for one or all of the fascinating lectures we have planned.

Robert D. Ballard
Thursday, September 19, 7:30-9:00PM

Best known for his 1985 discovery of the wreckage of the R.M.S. Titanic, Dr. Robert Ballard is one of the world's most distinguished oceanographers and explorers. He will describe his deep-sea expeditions and offer insight into history's most famous shipwreck. Ballard is the founder and head of the Institute for Exploration at Mystic Marinelife Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut.

Jon Nese and Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz
Thursday, June 6

Two of Philadelphia's most respected meteorologists, Dr. Jon Nese, chief meteorologist at The Franklin Institute, and Glenn Schwartz, meteorologist at NBC-10, have co-written a book on the history of weather in the Philadelphia region, entitled The Philadelphia Area Weather Book. This lecture was the public release of their book, as the authors shared a remarkable story through a pictoral account of significant weather events over the years.
