Sample Schedule | Camp-In FAQ

Camp-In is ideal for families, youth groups, schools, scouts, and other organizations with children between the ages of 6 and 13. Friday and Saturday nights, after the Museum closes for the day, campers have the place to themselves. The adventure begins with arrival between 6 and 7PM. The sample schedule on this page gives you an idea of what to expect, although the order of activities may be revised depending on the number of students attending any given Camp-In.

For 2005-2006 Camp-In! Each camper who visits during the 2005-2006 Camp-In season (13 and under) receives the official Camp-In patch. This patch entitles the holder to FREE museum admission throughout the 2005-2006 school year—up to a $13.75 value each visit.

Patch does not include Tuttleman IMAX® Theater or Body Worlds exhibit. Patch discount not valid when return visit is part of an organized group.


Sample Schedule

Each Camp-In includes plenty of free time to explore, along with scheduled activities. While the exact schedule will vary depending on the number of campers and special programming needs, below is a sample of a typical Camp-In. Adults will receive personalized schedules upon arrival.

6PM to 7PM / Arrival
Please be prompt; activities begin at 7PM

7:00PM / Live Orientation Show

7:30PM to 11PM / Museum Exploration and Camp Activities

11:00PM / Wind down with a Tuttleman IMAX Theater film

12:00AM / Lights Out!
Sleep the night away in one of our many science exhibit halls

6:30AM / Complimentary breakfast and exploration time

8:00AM / BIG in the Fels Planetarium

9:30AM / Camp-In concludes

Once your gear is stored safely out of the Museum, campers with their wristbands are welcome to stay in the Science Museum until noon at no additional charge.


Camp-In FAQ

Cost
$41 per person -adult or child
$39 per person - youth organization discount (scouts, schools, youth groups, etc.)
$37 per person - members

Registration
Pre-Registration is required. Please send the registration contract along with 25% non-refundable deposit.

At least one chaperone for every five campers is required. Please register with the exact number of participants (including chaperones), or your minimum anticipated number. If you need to increase your group size, please contact the Camp-In registrar first to ask if space is available.

You will be responsible for full payment and final group size three weeks before your Camp-In date. In the event your group size decreases, your forfeit the initial 25% non-refundable deposit. We regret that this amount cannot be applied towards the balance due for the remainder of participants. There will be no refunds after the full payment is received, three weeks before your Camp-In date.

Confirmation
Once your 25% non-refundable deposit is received, you will receive a "Survival Guide" with your confirmation, directions, orientation materials, and more!

Survival Guide for Group Leaders:
The Survival Guide you receive provides detailed information on what to bring, parking, health and safety policies and provisions, meals, emergency contact numbers, and other information that group leaders will find useful.
Returning groups: Please note that per the Philadelphia Fire Marshal, no air mattresses are permitted at Camp-In.

Parking
Parking is available in the electronically-monitored garage under The Franklin Institute. The Camp-In discount rate of $7.50 applies from 5:00PM until noon the following day. Travel information is available.

Meals
In order to maximize your time here, we encourage campers to eat dinner before arriving. You may also purchase food from our in-house service (the information and rates will be in your Survival Guide) or vending machines, or bring a packed meal.

Health and Safety

  • Chaperones must accompany campers at all times.
  • Trained first aid staff and 24-hour security personnel are always on the premises.
  • Smoking is prohibited in the Museum; designated smoking areas may be arranged for adults upon check-in.
  • The Camp-In program complies with all guidelines set forth by the Philadelphia Fire Marshal.
  • Camp-In is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Leave valuables at home.
  • Camp-In officially ends at 9:30AM the following morning. You MUST remove all personal belongings and hired transportation before or by 9:30AM.
