This should have been managed better. Having some singing before the IMAX was too little too late - girls were already very fidgety - it was 11:15 by this time! They also were excited to ride the Sky Bike but unfortunately a great portion of them were not tall enough. The Train Factory was also a hit with them. They were excited to make the star finder in their workshop and then put it to practical use in the observatory the following morning. The Kid Science was also a great hit with my 8 year old son. He had a great time in the fountain pool. Even my 11 year old who went in with him had fun playing with all the different exhibits in there. We were pleased that we were able to stay at the museum until noon on Sunday to see things that we did not have time to get to the night before., The group and my family in particular were extremely disappointed in the fact that a lot of the exhibits were not in working condition and their was never a staff member available to ask for help. You had to search one out. If you were lucky enough to find someone they were friendly enough but it was very difficult to find someone. The IMAX movie was disappointing also because we had seen the movie over a year ago in Rockland County, NY at the Palisades Center IMAX and the movie was in 3-D. Our sleeping spot was the IMAX exit and we were quite surprised that they told us to bunk down after our movie only to find out that their was another show after ours and these people came out and had to basically walk over us to get to their own spots. That was very unsettling. The breakfast in the a.m. was DISGUSTING. The milk for the cereal was very warm, the grape jelly was gray instead of purple, the fruit was either not ripe or over ripe. Not one person in our group had a good piece of fruit. The orange juice was old and tasted rancid. The staff was extremely rude that was attending the breakfast. Yelling out instructions that we were only allowed one thing and not to "even think of coming back for seconds". It was a young man yelling instructions from a bench and two girls sitting with him giggling at his rude antics. I was extremely upset with the behavior of these staff members. My son dropped his bagel and was afraid to go get another. She was great with the kids and very funny., Most of the girls really liked the grossology., The part that we were extremely disappointed in was when we were given a time for the Planetarium at 7:00 am and waited 40 minutes to find out that your staff forgot about this showing. As voiced by many of the adults in my group. We had a schedule and a time frame that we needed to follow in signing up and paying for the camp-in. We would expect that with the amount of money that the our girls scouts paid that the staff would be fully trained and informed of the schedule that was put together. Also when I asked for help in getting a cooler and food on wheels to the lunch room I was brought and left by a staff member to an elevator that was turned off for security reasons. Someone else finally walked by and informed me of this after I had been waiting for about 10 minutes. AWESOME!!!!, Spy Camp fingerprinting, Space demo, Spy Camp ID's., The kids were most upset with the inability to get meals or food beside vending machine junk. When we could find food there wasn't anytime to eat it because the camp counselor couldn't figure out where we were supposed to put our stuff or how to get to where we were supposed to be and the children were going to miss orientation or something else important for spy camp. They were upset with the number of times that they had to wait on line (observatory etc.) while being tired and hungry only for the exhibit to not be working properly. The children were extremely upset when the breakfast wasn't available according to the specified times (breakfast "STARTED" at 8:10 and was almost gone by then and completely removed by 8:20). Although they were able to get a few small items for themselves they were actually distraught at seeing other children and troops crying because they had no food AT ALL for breakfast. My daughter in particular has come to me numerous times in just the past 24 hours telling me that she can't stop thinking about those "poor kids that were crying because they were hungry and couldn't get any food" and she has said to me and the rest of her siblings and father that she never wants to go back to that place again and they shouldn't go either. These are children! Their health and wellbeing should come first and be a top priority in a program advertised for children. I had great memories of the Franklin Institute as a child and looked forward to this being a chance to give that to my child as well as a memory of our time together. We have 4 children and time with each one alone is very special, rare and takes alot of effort to pull together. What a mess. I was called prior to the camp-in telling us staff would be out front with directions to the parking garage, etc due to the anticipated high traffic for the opening of the Harry Potter film in the IMAX theatre. This experience soured an otherwise wonderful time. In the future, a map should be handed out to each person showing which lots to park in and where they are. Bolt, and Pat, Mr. L. Bolt paid special attention to a group of our girls. They had fun with him and he made a point of seeking them out at the spy reveal, which they loved. Pat took our picture the next day with several of our cameras. He was especially accomodating and helpful and said he was the supervisor or asst. supervisor of the program., They enjoyed the Sparks show and most of the exhibits. Some of them really liked the different movies., We did not like the sleeping accomodations. We slept in Sir Isaac's Loft all the way in the back by the Exit signs. In both areas, an overhead spotlight was left on all night over the exhibits. It made it very difficult to get to sleep. Plus, one of the other troops were shining flashlights on our girls and talking. Our other main complaint was, our guide, Jim, did not give us enough information. His explanation at the beginning was very poor and left us wondering what to do, other than knowing we had to get to the orientation. We had no idea where to go after the show. We didn't find any of the labs until 10 minutes before the spy reveal, along with the table with the pencils to fill out their clue books, so we were very frustrated. Part of that was our fault but he could have explained it more clearly. We were expecting more structure during that part of the evening. We wandered around the exhibits for most of the time. Then we went to eat around 9, hoping that was ok too. We did find a lot more people doing the same but we worried we messed up. We also thought there was a badge program we were participating in and that was not well communicated. I saw one item that said we could work on a badge if we wanted to. I didn't know that ahead of time or I would have prepared for that. All in all our girls enjoyed it, especially the next day when we spent time after the program ended just going back to the exhibits we missed while it was less crowded. The adults were frustrated tho. Having never been there before, we did not know how to get around easily and we did not get to any of the labs! We felt very stupid after that. My son got sick on Friday night, and Nick made arrangements for us to stay in the first aid room and checked on us throughout the night to make sure we were okay. He got our sleeping bags for us and even watched my sick child while I went to collect some more of my gear. He was very helpful and made a bad situation not too miserable. Considering we were not able to participate in activities on Saturday, he made arrangements with Jessie for my son to get a backpack with souveniers in it which cheered him up once we got home. My son being sick could have been a disaster, but Nick helped make it inconvenient, but not unbearable. Thanks again, Nick.
