MSP 2008 Teacher Professional Development
SUMMER SCIENCE ACADEMY
For School District of Philadelphia 4th, 5th, & 6th grade full-time teachers


JULY 7th - 25th, 2008, (Monday - Friday, 9am - 3:30pm)
at The Franklin Institute

The Innovation Center Academy is a three week opportunity for School District of Philadelphia 4th, 5th, & 6th grade full-time teachers to obtain deeper knowledge of curriculum-relevant science content and inquiry-oriented instructional practice.

The 2008 Academy will focus on three major standards-based content areas:

  • Earth and space sciences, and how a good understanding of these affects our lives here on Earth
  • Organisms' survival and interactions with the Earth's environment
  • Inquiry and the Nature of Science

The content correlates with the following SDP instructional units: Land and Water/Landforms, Astronomy/Solar Energy, Structures of Life/Ecosystems/Environments.

The Academy builds on The Franklin's recognized expertise as a provider of high-quality, relevant science teacher professional development. Teachers seeking a solid grasp of "science for teaching" are encouraged to give serious consideration to collaboratively participating with district colleagues in this newly formulated professional growth experience.



Free garage parking (space available)
Teachers are compensated through the MSP Grant at the contractual rate, and receive PA Act 48 activity hours
