volume five, issue six

The summer begins to sizzle with the June/July Spotlight on
"Forest Flames." Read all about forest fires, what
conditions are right for sparking one, and how you can help
prevent the destruction.
"inQuiry Attic" examines the bicycle boom and the technology that contributed to the evolution of bicycle shapes, sizes, and styles. See how people were "Getting a Handle...on Technology." "Minutes from ME" demonstrates how young students can use previously learned computing techniques and apply them to other programs such as word processing. Check out some of these "New Readers' PC Activities." The Online Fellows have successfully brought the first year of "Wired @ School" to completion. In the Fall, you will see some new faces, in addition to the familiar ones who have provided fun and interesting features for the past nine months. Be prepared for a little something different from our returning teachers. The June/July features are as follows: Robert Owens presents "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally," developed to explain mnemonics and the order of operations in equations. If you answer the puzzle questions quickly and correctly, you could be eligible to win a prize! Hazel Jobe, Karen Walkowiak, and Robert Owens present "Something Froggy," a resource with primary and junior versions that will help you to discover a few "froggy facts." June and July are filled with "Great Dates" worth observing. June brings Flag Day and Father's Day, and July celebrates the freedom of two countries with Canada Day and U.S. Independence Day. |
