A Look Back in Time!
From Mrs. Mazen...
It's hard to believe the school year is almost over. This year has been renewing for me in many ways. I believe BioPoint has motivated my students and myself. My students spend a considerable amount of time on their assignments. Publishing their work gives them a greater sense pride and accomplishment. In addition, they were able to communicate their opinions to people around the world. They looked forward to being filmed and watching themselves at work on the web. BioPoint motivated me to be creative. It inspired me to learn ways to use the internet for communication, learning, and publishing. Publishing a monthly magazine made me more aware of my philosophy of teaching and what I want to project to my students and others. BioPoint is, in my eyes, just a beginning of what I hope to accomplish over the years. I would like to thank Steve Baumann for inviting me to work with the Franklin Institute on this project. In addition, I'd like to thank Karen Elinich for all her time, effort, and support. Also, Kelly Knight, our wonderful cameraman for making all of my students' efforts look so terrific and feel at ease. This project would not have been possible without all their efforts. My job was easy. All I really had to do was open the door of our classroom and share our experiences.
Thanks for a wonderful experience,

The Fetal Pig
From a student's point-of-view...
![]() The first step was to observe the pig's mouth. |
![]() This image reveals the pig's digestive system including the small intestine, large intestine, and liver.
![]() The thorasic cavity contains the major organs of the respiratory and circulatory systems.
![]() In the mouth, we looked at the soft palate, hard palate, nasal pharynx, esophagus, epiglottis, glottis, and tongue.
![]() The scrotum is one part of the urogenital system of a male pig.
![]() These two students have just begun their dissection.
![]() A sense of humor helps. Some students posted a note on the pig's foot. It reads, "Don't dissect me!"
![]() We had to locate and observe each body part. In the foreground is the heart, sliced in half.
![]() We carefully arranged the parts for identification.
![]() We were required to wear gloves throughout the dissection which took two class periods.
