The Unisys Prize - Online Science Education

Unisys, in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and The Franklin Institute, is pleased to announce the second recipient of The Unisys Prize for achievement in Online Science Education.

The Chicago Academy of Sciences (and its Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum) in partnership with Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez Elementary School and Friends of the Chicago River has received The Unisys Prize in recognition of "El Agua Trabaja: How Water Benefits Quality of Life in Chicago's Little Village," an outstanding example of how the web can support innovative science education.

Earlier this week, a panel of judges met to review the twelve webspaces that were under consideration for this year's Unisys Prize. The panel consisted of five voting judges who represented both the formal and informal science education communities. The panel unanimously selected "El Agua Trabaja: How Water Benefits Quality of Life in Chicago's Little Village" as this year's recipient of The Unisys Prize. The panel also recognized three other webspaces for distinction.

Runner-Up: "It's A Pond's Life" - A project of the Austin Nature and Science Center in partnership with Zavala Elementary School and the College of Natural Science at the University of Texas - Austin.

Honorable Mention: "Science Works!" - The Pittsburgh Children's Museum in partnership with Cardinal Wright School and Carnegie Mellon University.

Honorable Mention: "Butterfly Mania" - Peabody and Watkins Elementary Schools in partnership with the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies and the Capitol Hill Cluster PTA.

All twelve sites were strong contenders for the prize.
