International Public Science Day 2001 | The Unisys Prize
Teams across the United States investgated how science benefits their communities as part of the 2001 Public Science Day program. On Wednesday, March 21, each of the twelve teams presented a sample of their work during the Showcase of Science. The goal of the event was to increase the audience for the findings that the student investigators have made and to celebrate the good work that they have done all year long. Below are some images captured from the Showcase and a description of the presentations. Click on the hyperlink to see a still image captured from the Showcase. Note that these images are screen captures. No video is available. Staff from OMSI and students from their partner school showed a timelapse video of the development of their model city, as it evolved from wilderness to urban ecosystem. They also showed a live view of the model on display in the science center. With help from staff at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, students from Foshay Learning Center in Los Angeles made presentations about their science investigations. At the Science Museum of Minnesota, staff demonstrated some of the wet genetics activities that the students had done as well as illustrating their creation of virtual dragons using Genscope software.
