Lesson Overview Before Visit

 

Before the museum visit, the students were attempting to measure everyday objects (books, desk, new pencils etc.) with non-standard measurements (paper clips, shoes etc.).  The students were eager to learn and had many ideas as to which measuring tool was the best.  Students were then introduced to the metric system.  Students used the metric ruler, tape measure and meter stick to measure the same everyday objects.

Unanimously, the class agreed using a standard unit of measure was best way to measure objects.
