Circulatory System Activities

Body Works
Have your students close their hand into a fist and open it again and again, for a few minutes. Ask if their hand is getting tired.
Muscles need a rest, but the heart, even though it is a muscle, never stops to sleep!
Your heart is the size of your fist, it is in the middle of your chest, between your lungs and behind your ribs and breastbone. It is tipped a little forward on the left side.
As the heart muscle contracts (squeezes), it pumps blood through its chambers (spaces or rooms in the heart) and out into your body through tubes called arteries. The blood returns to your heart through tubes called veins. All of these parts working together are a system. This system is known as the circulatory system, because the blood circulates or moves around the body.

Check out the Tongue
The tongue is also a big muscle. It is fed by lots of blood vessels, which are tubes. The thick blue ones are veins. The think pink ones are arteries.  Give your students a chance to look at their tongue with a mirror.
