THEME:  Do Athletes Use FORCE & MOTION?

 

PURPOSE:  to integrate resources from the informal museum and formal education system to inquire how

                    athletes use FORCE & MOTION

 

GOALS/OBJECTIVES:

 

·        students will understand technology as a learning tool to inquire how athletes use FORCE & MOTION when they play.

·        students use visual aids (games, photos, slideshows, movies) to record experiences and findings

·        enhance and increase involvement that will result in the student taking ownership in the project

·        comply with the Philadelphia curriculum standards

  • Hands-on activities with Force & Motion Kits
  • Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine
  • Technology Equipment (photos, camera, computer)

 

FIELD TRIP:

 

  • Visit to the Franklin Institute Museum

 

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:

  • Describe Force & Motion used by athletes from pictures in Sports Illustrated for Kids Magazine
  • Discuss and fill in a KWL (know, want to know, learn) Activity Sheet
  • Students visit Force & Motion classroom centers for hands-on activity
  • Students review iMovie tape recorded at the museum and in the classroom.
  • Worksheets ( KWL chart, trivia questions, alphabetize words, word search).
