Do
you know how to xeriscape? Grouping plants with the same water
needs together, mulching them, and watering them correctly will
go a long way to saving water used outdoors. Much water is wasted
on lawns and landscaping. In fact watering the yard accounts
for 25 to 50 percent of all residental water. |

Does
every drop really count? You bet! those dripping faucets can
add up to lots of wasted water. |

Using
water saving appliances and fixtures such as low flow toilets
can save lots of water each day. |

Is
the cost of conserving water by using water saving devices really
worth the price? |
How
much can water saving devices save?
|
 |
Everyday
citizens and kids can do a lot to conserve water. The biggest
problem is that people are not aware of the problems and what
they can do to help. Everyone needs to spread the word. |
|
|
 |
Desalination
of seawater to remove salt may help create an additional source
of public water but many problems still exist in building plants
to do this. Until then we need to use reclaimed water (treated
so it can be used on lawns) and conserve water supplies. |

Much
of the water stored in aquifers is deep underground. Wells can
be drilled to pump the water out. |
Just
what is an aquifer?
Find out more.
|
 |
Most
of our water supply comes from ground water that is pumped from
underground aquifers. Other water comes from water bodies such
as rivers, lakes, and streams. We need to protect this water
supply. |
