Question: If rainwater comes from the ocean, why isn't it salty?

Materials: 

  • 2 cups of water

  • 2 teaspoons of salt

  • Pie pan

Procedure:

  1. Add salt to water and stir until it dissolves.

  2. Pour into pie pan.

  3. Set pie pan in warm dry place.

  4. Let water evaporate.

  5. Use magnifying glass to examine what is left in the pie pan.

Conclusion:

  1. What is left in the pie pan?

  2. Does this explain why the rain is not salty?
