Research Project and Ideas

  • The greater part of the world's coal supplies were formed during the late Paleozoic. Have students research the type of environmental conditions that enabled these deposits to form.
  • Research the kind of problems associated with the burning of bituminous coal.
  • Europe and the United States became industrialized earlier than other regions because they have both coal and iron available, as well as cheap transportation to move these bulky materials to a central place for processing. Research the types of transportation that were used and the region that used the transportation.
  • Crude oil is not a single chemical, but hundreds of substances. Have interested students report on the products made from crude oil.
