For Alcock and Brown's flight, the Vimy aircraft was altered. Extra fuel tanks were fitted in the spaces where the guns and bombs were normally placed.

Several experts have tried to work out exactly how long it took Alcock and Brown to fly across the Atlantic from coast to coast, and exactly how far they flew. They don't all agree. These figures are good estimates.
