Classification of Living Things Project
Assignment:
This mini-project has three components: Research, Rough Draft and Art Work.
- Choose an animal you want to learn more about.
- Write a one-page report about the animal of your choice. (Do not plagiarize!)
- Include a title page with your name, the name of the animal you researched and an illustration
- Use at least three sources of information (e.g. books, encylopedias, the Internet) and include a bibliography.
- You are expected to hand in your rough draft with your good draft.
Part A: Questions To Research
- What is the name of your animal?
(i.e: What class does it belong to? Is there a significance to the animal’s name?)
2. What does your animal look like?
- (i.e: Describe its appearance and provide an illustration. This could be hand-drawn, a computer graphic, a magazine picture, etc.)
3. What does your animal eat?
- (i.e: Name the food it eats and describe how it catches food. Does the body of the animal have any special adaptations for catching food?)
4. Where does your animal live?
- (i.e. Describe its habitat and any characteristics that help it to survive in its habitat.)
Part B: The Art Work
Create one of the following:
- a mobile that shows your animal surrounded by objects from its habitat (e.g. a frog, a lily pad, a fly)
- a hidden picture showing your animal camouflaged in its habitat
- a collage of pictures of your animal, either drawn or cut out from magazines
- a 3-D diorama (e.g. a scene showing your animal in its natural habitat
Part C: Rough Draft
Your rough draft should be written on lined sheets of paper. Skip lines. - Include any planning webs that you create.

Organize information according to headings and convey a central idea, using well-linked paragraphs - Use of complex sentences (sentence structure)

spelling
- Quality (depth) of the research
Criteria for Oral Presentation:
- Express and respond to a range of ideas and opinions concisely, clearly and appropriately
- Demonstrate the ability to concentrate by identifying main points and staying on topic
- Ask and answer questions to obtain and clarify information
- Use a varied vocabulary and range of sentence structures
