A moon is a large, natural object that orbits a planet. Another name for a moon is a satellite.
Earth's moon is called the Moon. The moon travels around the Earth and is Earth's closest neighbour. Although the Earth and Moon are close to eachother, there are many differences between them. The Moon is one-fourth the size of Earth. There is alot less gravity on the Moon than the Earth. There is no atmosphere, weather, oceans or life on the Moon. The Moon's surface features consist of craters, mountain ranges, rilles, and lava plains.
The Moon has no light of its own. Like the Earth, it reflects the light of the Sun. The Moon has three kinds of motion: it revolves around the earth, rotates on its axis and follows the Earth in its movement around the Sun.
