How Are They Named?

It is your job to come up with a new plan for naming tropical storms. But first you have been told that you must find out how it has been done. Then you can see if you can come up with a different plan.
This is what you should know about the hurricane-like storms that have different names in different parts of the world.
1. Where are the following storms found? You can illustrate this on a map as well as writing out where they might be found.
Hurricanes
Typhoons
Cyclones
2. How are these storms currently given names?
3. Are the same lists of names used for hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones?
4. Are the names ever repeated?
5. Are names ever taken off the list? Why or why not?
6. When does a storm become a hurricane and receive a name?
Now it is your turn to see if you can create another way to name these storms. Develop a plan for how you might do it differently. Be sure to include all of the information that would answer the questions above in your new plan.
