Take a Vote

1. Create a survey to poll people about some of the questions raised during the project or to see just how aware people in your community are about the issues.

Questions might include:

2. After deciding on the questions, duplicate the survey and have students ask 5 people in their community to participate.

This may help get the community more involved in the project and also ensure that students are polling different people. Decide if people to be polled should be adults/children or both before sending students to ask the questions. If students have created a brochure or information sheet about the Florida scrub jay they might like to share this with those they survey so they will become more informed.

3. Tabulate the information and have students discuss what they found out. Create graphs to illustrate their findings on the questions which lend themselves to numerical display.

Programs such as Claris For Kids or The Graph Club can help students quickly and easily create graphs using your computer. Post the graphs and reports of your conclusions for other classes to see and learn from.
