Scrub Jay Essays
The Florida Scrub Jay
I think that the Florida Scrub Jay should be our state bird because this bird is only found in Florida. We do not have an official state bird, and people claim that the mockingbird is our state bird. We do not want the mockingbird to be our state bird, because the mockingbird is the state bird of Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas.
The Scrub Jay habitat has lots of brush and can be found near beaches. Florida has lots of beaches. Scrub Jays are very friendly and are in danger of extinction. That is why I think the Florida Scrub Jay should be our state bird.

Scrub Jay
Did you know that we don't have an official state bird?
So why can't the Florida scrub jay be the official state bird? Did you know that the Florida Scrub Jay could become extinct?
The Scrub Jay eats insects, acorns, pine seeds, invertebrate, mice, frogs, and fruit. It also comes to birds feeders.
It nests are made out of twigs, grass lines with fibers, rootless, placed in shrubs or bushes. They lay 2-6 eggs.
The young birds are helpers to their parents. The Scrub population is down by 50% since 1900 due to loss of scrub oak, habitat. Most loss of habitat is due to development.
People say they are so friendly they'll land on your shoulder and head.
