Restaurant Guide for Birds

1. Discuss what birds eat. Remind them that habitats consist of food, water, shelter and space that all species need in order to survive.

Have any of them fed birds? Do all birds like the same things? What would the scrub jay's diet consist of? Do they have any favorite foods? Refer back to the information about the scrub jay on the Scrub Jay Characteristics page.

2. Build a bird feeder you can hang outside your classroom.

Get kids involved with wildlife by letting them use the Activity of the Month from the Ranger Rick Magazine site which includes an archive for past activities including Funky Instructions for a Great Bird Feeder. (http://www.nwf.org/nwf/rrick/feedbird.html)
