The tribe I am studying is the Sioux. The Sioux lived in Nebraska, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
The Sioux homes were made out of buffalo hides and poles and were called tepees.
Their clothing also was made out of buffalo hides, as well as feathers and porcupine quills.
The women’s jobs were to put up and take down the tepees. The men’s jobs were to hunt buffalo.
The Sioux ate buffalo and they farmed corn and other vegetables.
The Sioux speak Nakota and Dakota.
The Sioux warriors painted their bodies and horses before they went to war. They had dreams and beaded the dreams on clothing they wore. The Sioux also painted pictures on buffalo hides.
No buffalo is wasted. They made special dolls for the children. The buffalo was a sacred animal so they made most every thing out of buffalo. For example, they made weapons, tools, thread, paint brushes, soap, glue, food, clothing, tepees, toys, cooking utensils, and fuel.
