A Brief History of Flight
Icarus and Daedalus, by Sara and Jennifer
The father's name was Daedalus and the son's name was
Icarus. The two had been imprisoned and they knew the only
way to escape was to fly. The prison was on an island and
it was about 70 miles to the nearest land.
They collect seabird feathers and beeswax from inside the
prision. When it came time for them to excape, they worked
all night making wings for their arms. At dawn they
climbed up onto the walls of the prision without the guards
seeing them. The wings were attached to their arms. As
they began to move their arms up and down, they flew out
toward the sea and away the prison.
(Remember, this
story is a myth; however it was one of the first stories of
early man's dream to conquer flight.)
