Centennial Lake
|
Centennial Lake is a pond located in Fairmount Park. This pond was
constructed for the 1876 celebration held in Philadelphia in honor of the
nation's centennial. One hundred and twenty years later, the pond is
a vital part of the Park's ecosystem.
A team of PACTS students, with help from Franklin Institute staff members, are studying the pond's history, chemistry, and biology. Throughout the natural seasons of the year, the team visits the pond and records data. Follow along as their work progresses throughout the year. At the end of the year-long study, the team will prepare a report for the Fairmount Park Commission to help assure that Centennial Lake will remain healthy for years to come, perhaps even until the nation's tricentennial. In this Quicktime Movie, (2200k) the team conducts tests during the November, 1997 visit. |
