One of my clients is a museum, and I manage their web
presence. I don't make the pages that the viewer sees, but I
do other things that let the site function. I check the logs
(which tell the museum how long people spent in different
areas of the website), I write scripts that allow visitors
to interact with the site, I take care of security issues to
prevent vandalism, and I make sure service is
uninterrupted—no crashing allowed!
I enjoy my job because I like the challenge of taking something as complex as computer services and helping clients by keeping the systems in working order. I like puzzling out how new software fits into the puzzle of life—how can it be used best? Whose problems could it help solve? I would advise you to look into computers if you have a strong attraction to logic and mathematics. But most importantly, I'd say to pursue your passion, whatever it is.
